About JewelEditor

Honest engagement ring editorial. No upsell, no condescension. We take a "$1,500" budget as seriously as a "$15,000" one.

Why this site exists

Engagement ring buying is one of the highest-stakes consumer purchases most people will ever make, and most of the content guiding it is either: written by retailers who want to sell you more, written by SEO content farms that summarize Wikipedia, or written by "experts" whose recommendations correlate suspiciously with whoever pays the highest affiliate commission.

We started JewelEditor because the buyers we know (including ourselves) were tired of having to read between the lines on every guide. Tired of the "3-month salary rule" that originated as a 1939 De Beers ad. Tired of being told a 2-carat natural diamond is "the right choice" without ever being shown what a 2-carat lab-grown looks like at one-tenth the price.

We're here to publish the guide we wanted when we were shopping.

What we actually do

  • Cornerstone buying guides: long-form, researched, refreshed quarterly. Each guide covers a specific question ("engagement rings under $5,000", "hidden halo settings", "what does carat mean") in plain English with real data.
  • Direct answers ("/answers") are short, specific, sourced answers to the questions buyers actually ask. No fluff, no SEO padding.
  • Interactive tools: the Budget Calculator and Color Grade Visualizer exist because some questions need real numbers, not generic ranges.
  • Retailer comparisons: when we test something hands-on, we say what worked and what didn't. Same retailer, same return policy, same pricing as any other reader.

Who runs JewelEditor

JewelEditor is an independent solo-operator publication: a single editor with significant AI editorial assistance, not a team. We don't pretend otherwise. The byline says "JewelEditor" on every piece because the work is reviewed, fact-checked, and shipped as the publication's position, not as a personality column.

The site is not owned by a private-equity firm, not owned by a jewelry retailer, not affiliated with any specific brand.

How AI fits in: AI tools help with research synthesis (reading long industry reports), first drafts, code, and editorial illustration (the still-life ring photography you see is AI-generated; we say so on editorial standards). Every published guide passes a human editorial review where claims get fact-checked against primary sources before shipping. AI helps us cover more ground; the editorial judgment is human.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions. When you click a link to a retailer and make a purchase, we receive a small commission (paid by the retailer, not added to your price). That commission funds the site.

We've made two structural commitments about this:

  1. We don't recommend higher-commission retailers over better options just because the commission is bigger.
  2. We don't accept paid coverage disguised as editorial. If we ever do paid placements, they'll be labeled "Sponsored" in 16pt at the top.

See the full affiliate disclosure.

How we research and verify

Every product recommendation comes from actual retailer pages we've loaded ourselves. Every price gets verified at publication time and re-verified quarterly. Every claim that needs a source gets a source. We'd rather publish a guide that admits "we don't know yet" than one that pretends to know more than we do.

Full methodology page covers the specifics: what we measure, how we test, when we update.

What we won't do

  • Tell you to spend more than your budget.
  • Push the "3-month salary" or any other manufactured spending rule.
  • Represent AI imagery as actual product photography. Where ring photos on the site are AI-generated editorial illustrations, that fact is disclosed on editorial standards.
  • Run countdown timers or false-urgency language.
  • Sell or share your data.
